Sturgis, SD

Sunday, August, 8, 2010

Yesterday we took our time leaving the campground. We wanted to spend time in Sturgis but could not leave Sire for the entire day and night. We left around 4pm. We got back after midnight, and had a great day!

We met up with Gloria and Ivan, the couple we met in Moab. It was great to see them. They showed up here on Saturday and completely surprised us. Their campground is in Sturgis which is 60 miles away. They rode Ivan's bike here and they had on leather all over. It was quite surprising. They looked great!

While in Sturgis we went to the Monkey Rock Bar. It is part of 'GlenCoe' campground. Behind the bar is a huge stage where big bands play every night. The lineup is 3 Doors Down, Bob Dillon, Ozzy Osborne, Creed, Motley Crew, ZZ Top, Jason Aldean, Kid Rock and so many more. The drawback to the concerts are - they are IN the campground and in order to 'get in the campground' you have to buy a bracelet. The bracelets are $200 a piece. Gloria and Ivan have a bracelet because they are staying in the campground so they only paid $140 per bracelet. Its still way too much!

There is also another infamous campground called Buffalo Chip. It about 1/4 mile down the street and is bigger and offers bigger names in concert. Apparently people book these sites 3 years out. We didn't have a chance.

Each campground is like its own little city. They have bars and restaurants and entertainment every night. You really do not have to leave.

We also walked across the street to a bar called Full Throttle Saloon. This place is amazing. It has two actually steel bridges on each side of it where you can sit and watch the crowds below. Motorcycles are everywhere. They have probably 35 bars set up within this 'little village'. There are bands inside and out. There are vendors selling whatever you can think of concerning riding. We had the best time there. They had 'burn out pits' and tattooing and it was completely out of control. I really want to go back, just to people watch. The downfall is it takes over 2hrs to get there because we have to drive through the mountains.

We spent some time downtown and that was CRAZY!!! It is nothing compared to Daytona. The crowd is older, the bikes are quadrupled, and its wall to wall people in leather (or nothing at all!). Kyle was loving it!!!

Not sure what we are doing today, probably just going on some trials with the razor...enjoy your Sunday. Thanks for reading.

  1. Hi Sharyn & Tommy: Sturgis looks great. Keith said, he doesn't believe women are walking around with nothing at all on...so, you need to send pictures to prove it!
    Love,
