Deadwood and CRAZY night at Sturgis

Thursday, August 12, 2010

So yesterday morning was sad for us, well, more me, but still sad. Kyle went home. On the way back from the airport we stopped in Deadwood.

I have wanted to explore this town since we came here. All the buildings are from the late 1800's. Wild Bill Hickok was killed and buried there.

We walked around for a while and took in all the sites. The bikers were all over the town but it seems no one drinks alcohol during the day, only water. Which was cool, because they have alot of coffee houses and if you know me....I love coffee.

After Deadwood we headed home to the temporary housing unit. The plan was for me at least, to clean and do laundry. But when we got back, after stopping for lunch. We napped instead. We woke up around 3pm, showered and headed into Sturgis for a hill climb contest.

Sturgis is almost 2 hrs away and when we got there the crowds were already nuts. The hill climb was more impressive than I thought it would be. They had a really good fireworks show afterwards.

Next, we wanted to go back to the Full Throttle Saloon. We were there a couple of days prior and it was the neatest place. They have real bridges brought in and couches and old time barber chairs and lawn furniture set up all over the place to relax. So many bars and two huge stages. Brett Micheal was there last night along with Scorpion.

They parking was impossible so we tried across the street at the Monkey Rock  Bar. We found a place there (for $10), and took the Polaris off the truck. We tried  - hard - to get into GlenCoe Campground. It didn't work. At the main gate, not only do they check for bracelets, but they pull on them, so if you 'find' one and tape it together, it is invalid. (the cost to enter is $200 per person). Forget that! There is another campground called Buffalo Chip, which is bigger and more known but we did not attempt getting into that one.

BUT... as you know Tommy.... we found a 'hole' in the fence and we went in. OMG!!! I will post some pictures but only the ones that do not reveal anything. It was the craziest thing I have ever witnessed. On the main drag they have this 'parade' of  naked people. Everyone hands out beads, like in New Orleans, to women who flash. It was unbelievable!

They also do these things called 'burn outs'. Bikers pull their bikes up against a trailer and a friend of theirs switches gears while the biker holds the bike upright and they hit the gas until the tire smokes and pops. It is really cool. I have no idea why they do this but its like a macho thing and every guy wants to show up the guy before him with more and more smoke. One guy burned through a $300 tire the night before and bought a new one yesterday. It had 5 miles on it and he blew it again! CRAZY!!!

I'm not sure I ever need to go back to Sturgis again. It is completely for the hardy party people. We had a great time, we laughed alot, but its too much, for me.

We left Custer  this morning and are now settled in Cheyenne, WY. Just for the night. Tomorrow we are heading into CO. We still do not have a definite plan as to where in Colorado, but we'll head there anyway.

Have a good evening, and thanks for reading. (Oh, and I apologize if the pictures offend you, Tommy is making me post them.) (the really really bad ones will be emailed privately! )
