Lazy Day

Yesterday was a lazy day for us. We slept in and went downtown for an art festival. It was nice. The funny thing about being on the road is; you cant really shop. You can only look. There is no space for new things unless you purge your old things. After the art festival we stopped at a local brewery and then onto a winery. We saw these buffalo on the way to the winery. On the way back from there we stopped to look at some Petroglyphs. Very cool.Today we are hiking again but and easy trail. Its really for jeeping, but we are walking it and taking the dog with us. Have a good day...

Today was Tommy and I's 6th anniversary and it was so much fun. We hiked the Delicate Arches trail yesterday along with our Texan neighbors, Kathy and Bill. It was a great, great day. They pictures show the rock we climbed but not so much the grade in climbing. It was tough and we almost gave up twice. We went 540 feet in 1 1/2 miles. The outcome was spectacular! On the top of the mountain was the famous arch you see on every calender and postcard. Look closely to see the magnitude of the arch itself. The people are so small comparably. The winds were approximated at 40mph and too scary for me to walk under the arch, but Tommy and Bill did. After our hike we stopped and got the best steaks for dinner. We are having the best time with Kathy and Bill. They leave for Alaska in 2 days and I am trying desperately to talk Tommy into following them. Today we are not hiking, my foot is still swollen but okay. We are heading into town for an art festival and series of concerts for Memorial Day Celebrations. This is the biggest weekend in Moab for tourist and we are very fortunate to have found a campground to accommodate us. We LOVE it here!! Have a wonderful day, we'll chat later.

Today we hiked up the 'portal trail', We were supposed to hike Moab Rim but the winds picked up again, and it was too dangerous. The portal was 1000 feet up and it took us an hour and a half to reach the top. 1 1/2 miles. Once up there we ate our celebratory apples. Mine green, Tommy's red. Always. The view is spectacular. But wouldn't you know it, Tommy forgot the camera. We used the phone but it does no justice. From the peak you can see part of Moab and as far as 30 miles out. The Canyonlands were visible and you could see the natural arches, which are amazing. Gloria and Ivan, our guides, (well, they actually run this RV park, but they invited us to go with them so we jumped on it), they were great! It was a walk in the park for them. Me and Tommy, not so much! On the way down I twisted my ankle and I'm hoping it doesn't swell because tomorrow there is another trail we want to do. They are endless out here. They take sports to the extreme here and are absolutely crazy where they go mountain biking! CRAZY!!! Here are some pictures of today.
